RECORD Ambassadeur 5000 My latest find - an old RECORD Ambassadeur! Sept. 14th, 1998 This is a red RECORD Ambassadeur 5000 model (SN: 62816). I have yet to determine all the history of these reels but it looks as if the RECORD reels existed for a certain period of time (late 1950's) before ABU and ABU-Garcia merged to offer the ABU Ambassadeur 5000 reel. This one is in nice shape, and includes a brown leather case and a parts list for the reel! Click here for pictures of Ambassadeurs!

Ambassadeur 5000 (red) This seems to be the reel that many Reel Collectors are looking for. Recently acquired This is a red Ambassadeur 5000 model. This reel is in fine shape and looks like it was hardly used. It is the 3-screw model with a serial number of 721100. It is not quite as collectible as the older 4-screw model. I assume the '72' means the reel was made in 1972 but many say this might not actually be correct. Ambassadeur 4000D (copper) Wow! How often do you see this Ambassadeur model? And in exellent shape! The 4000D Ambassadeur model. This is one of the direct drive Ambassadeurs which does not have the standard star drag. Never could figure out why someone would prefer this type of reel over one with a star drag but... It seems that the D series of reels was not one of Abu's more popular lines thus they are hard to find these days. Wayne Thornbrugh is the owner of this one and you can see more pics of his reel and mine. Wayne's reel has a clicker and the original copper handle, mine has an optional handle and no clicker.
